Brief Report of Taiwan's Trade in June 2016

According to the statistics from General Directorate of Tariff in Taiwan, its volume of goods trade was USD227.85 billion from January to June in 2016, down 9.3% year-on-year (the same below). Exports fell by 10.3% to USD120.73 billion, and imports fell by 8.0% to USD107.12 billion. The trade surplus was USD13.61 billion, down 25.1%.

In June, Taiwan’s volume of goods trade fell by 4.4% to USD40.59 billion. Exports fell by 2.3% to USD21.22 billion and imports fell by 6.5% to USD19.38 billion. And the trade surplus grew by 86.2% to USD1.84 billion.

Since January to June, bilateral trade volume between Taiwan and the mainland China fell by 10.1% to USD50.74 billion. Taiwan’s exports to mainland fell by 14.1% to USD29.75 billion. It accounted for 24.6% of Taiwan’s overall export, down 1.1%. And Taiwan’s imports from mainland grew by 3.8% to USD20.99 billion. It accounted for 19.6% of Taiwan’s overall imports, up 0.9% over the previous year. Taiwan’s trade surplus with China fell by 31.7% to USD8.75 billion.

The mainland China was the largest export market of Taiwan and its largest source of imports up to June in 2016.
